White Paper: Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2025. Healthcare Policy Recommendations – A Unique Publication Now Available!
This distinguished collection of insights is the result of two years of work by the Institute for Social Policy Development, which organised six conferences and hosted over twenty expert interviews (#Conversations about the Presidency, available on YouTube) on the health priorities of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. With participation from leading experts in medicine and healthcare, as well as decision-makers and civil society representatives, White Paper: Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2025. Healthcare Policy Recommendations serves as a vital resource on the EU Council Presidency, highlighting key healthcare challenges for the European Union in the first half of 2025 and beyond, and outlining Poland’s potential role in addressing these challenges.

Polish Presidency in the EU 2025: Health and Safety as Foundations for the Future
On February 21, 2025, a conference titled “Path to Presidency” took place, dedicated to Poland’s health-related priorities in the context of its upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union. During the event, a White Paper was presented, containing expert recommendations and proposals for actions aimed at improving healthcare systems across the Union. The conference brought together a broad range of experts, policymakers, and practitioners, including representatives from the European Commission, the World Health Organization (WHO), academia, and civil society organizations. The event was inaugurated by Małgorzata Bogusz, President of the Institute for Social Policy Development Among the honorary speakers was Oliver Röpke, President of the European Economic and Social Committee.

Healthcare Policy Summit on Poland’s Presidency of the EU Council in 2025 – what will the priorities in healthcare be?
On January 1, 2025, Poland will assume the presidency of the Council of the European Union. As part of the 18-month rotating trio of countries, our nation will participate in setting the EU's long-term goals and preparing a joint action agenda for the Council.

Effective care for post-heart attack patients reduces the number of deaths from cardiovascular causes
Cardiologists are sounding the alarm. Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) remain the leading cause of death in Poland. Around 70,000 people suffer a heart attack each year, of which 20 percent will not survive the following year, and one in three post-heart attack patients will die from cardiovascular causes within the next three years. According to experts, optimizing the healthcare system is essential. With planned changes in cardiology treatment and new initiatives such as the introduction of KOS Zawał Plus, Poland could become a European leader in the treatment of post-heart attack patients.

Healthcare Policy Summit Rare Diseases - Experts expect early and well-tailored genetic diagnostics in the treatment of rare diseases
Rare diseases, contrary to their name, affect up to 3 million Polish women and men. Although no more than several thousand people in Poland suffer from a specific rare disease—and in many cases, only a few hundred or dozen patients receive a diagnosis nationwide—taking into account the fact that as many as 8,000 rare diseases have been identified so far, they pose a significant challenge for the healthcare system and society.

Neurological and psychiatric diseases are an increasingly serious health problem affecting a growing group of patients. In many cases, the use of modern therapies brings health benefits to patients, allowing them to function normally — these are the conclusions drawn from the discussion held as part of the “Healthcare Policy Summit” series, dedicated to the challenges in neurology and psychiatry in the post-pandemic era.

Conference “Poland and Italy in the Face of Crises and Challenges in the Healthcare Sector – Practice and Experience,” Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Rome, 07.06.2022
The event was organized in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Rome. During the conference, representatives of Polish and Italian public institutions and healthcare organizations, parliamentarians, leading medical experts, scientists, and pharmaceutical industry representatives came together.

The institutional partner of the conference was the Medical Research Agency. The honorary patronage of the conference was assumed by: the Minister of Health, the Ministry of Development and Technology, Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Gliński, the National Institute of Public Health, the Government Plenipotentiary for Youth Policy, the Council for Dialogue with the Young Generation, the Public Benefit Committee, the Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers, the Warsaw Enterprise Institute, and the Institute of Eastern Studies.
