Scientific Council

The Scientific Council of the Foundation of the Institute for the Advancement of Social Affairs comprises the following members:

  • Professor Bolesław Samoliński, MD, PhD – Chairman of the Scientific Council Specialist in public health, allergology, and otorhinolaryngology, Head of the Department of Public and Environmental Health, Department of Environmental Threat Prevention, Allergology and Immunology and Head of the Department of Allergology and Immunology at the University Clinical Center at Medical University of Warsaw, Chair of the Subcommittee on Health Priorities during the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2011.

 

  • Professor Maciej Banach, MD, PhD
    Renowned cardiologist and academic educator, Member of numerous international scientific societies, Founder and Chairman of the Polish Lipid Association (PoLA), Author of over 1,500 publications in leading scientific journals. Ranked fourth among the most frequently cited individuals in the field of medicine in Poland according to Research.com. In line with the Expertscape, he is among the top five most accomplished global experts in lipidology and preventive cardiology,  Recipient of five honorary degrees of honoris causa.

 

  • Professor Teresa Jackowska, MD, PhD
    Pediatrician, Pediatric Oncologist and Hematologist, Academic Teacher with a rich scientific portfolio, Head of the Department of Pediatrics at the Center for Postgraduate Medical Education and Head of the Clinical Pediatric Department at the Bielany Hospital in Warsaw, National Consultant in Pediatrics in 2015–2023, President of the Polish Pediatric Society.

 

  • Professor Bartosz Karaszewski, MD, PhD
    Neurologist, National Consultant in Neurology, Chairman of the Committee on Clinical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, First Chair of the Young Scientists Academy of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Founder and First Leader of the Global Health Group at the Global Young Academy. Has worked in leading European research and clinical centers.

 

  • Professor Brygida Kwiatkowska, MD, PhD
    National Consultant in rheumatology and Head of the Clinic of Early Arthritis, Deputy Director for Clinical Affairs at the National Institute of Geriatrics, Rheumatology and Rehabilitation in Warsaw. She is involved in teaching both medical students at the Medical University of Warsaw and physicians undergoing specialization through the Center for Postgraduate Medical Education. An undisputed authority for generations of medical professionals and researchers, associated with the institute for nearly 40 years.

 

  • Dr. Aleksandra Lewandowska, MD, PhD
    National Consultant in child and adolescent psychiatry. Since her university days, actively engaged in promoting healthy lifestyles among children and youth. Cooperates with foundations, associations, local governments, pre-schools, schools, and universities. Author/Co-author of dozens of publications. Educator and Scientific Director of specialization training in child and adolescent psychotherapy. Practitioner who combines her work with passion—engaged in inpatient, outpatient, and community care. Member of the Expert Council of the “Healthy Life” project and the Interministerial Expert Team on the health education curriculum.

 

  • Dr. Janusz Meder, MD, PhD
    Physician and oncologist, President of the Polish Oncology Union, Head of the Conservative Ward at the Clinic of Lymphatic System Neoplasms at the Oncology Center – Institute in Warsaw. Member of numerous scientific societies: ASCO, ESMO, EORTC Lymphoma Group, ILROG, PTOK, PTRO, PTHiT, and Member of the Bioethical Committee at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

 

  • Dr. Marek Migdał MD, PhD
    Pediatrician and pulmonary disease specialist. Has worked at the Children’s Health Center since 1979, first in the Pediatric Department, and since 1986 in the Intensive Care Unit. Director of the “Children’s Memorial Health Institute” since December 2018. Author of over 230 publications, organizer of numerous conferences on pediatric intensive care and clinical research in Poland. Member of the European Society of Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care (ESPNIC); served on the Board from 2014 to 2017 as the Professional Development Committee Chair.

 

  • Professor Małgorzata Myśliwiec, MD, PhD
    Specialist in pediatrics, endocrinology, diabetology, and pediatric endocrinology and diabetology. Vice Chair of the Pediatric Section of the Polish Diabetes Association, Member of the Scientific Council at the Ministry of Health, the Committee for Human Development at the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Committee on Public Health at the Polish Academy of Sciences, and board member of both the Polish Diabetes Association and the Polish Society of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology. Actively engaged at the ministerial level in improving the organization of diagnostics and treatment for diabetological and endocrinological diseases. Co-developer of an innovative therapy for type 1 diabetes in children using regulatory T cells (TREG).

 

  • Professor Violetta Skrzypulec-Plinta, MD, PhD
    Specialist in gynecology and obstetrics, endocrinology, and sexology. In her clinical practice, she focuses passionately on issues such as infertility and its accompanying endocrine disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome, and menopause. From the very beginning of her professional career, she has been involved in women’s health issues, advocating for medical prevention and comprehensive sexual education.

 

  • Professor Anna Kostera-Pruszczyk, PhD
    Specialist in neurology and pediatric neurology. Head of the Department and Clinic of Neurology at the Medical University of Warsaw, Chairwoman of the Council for Rare Diseases that deals with the implementation of the Rare Diseases Plan for 2024–2025. She is a Member of the expert panel at the European Academy of Neurology for neuromuscular diseases and neuromuscular junction disorders. Co-author of care recommendations for patients with myotonic dystrophy. Chief expert for the Ministry of Health on neurology needs mapping (2016–2017).

 

  • Professor Henryk Skarżyński, MD, PhD, mult. h.c.
    A world-renowned Otosurgeon and Specialist in otorhinolaryngology, audiology, phoniatrics, and pediatric otolaryngology. Since 1996, Director of the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing. Since 1994, National Specialist in audiology and later National Consultant in audiology and phoniatrics; since 2011, National Consultant in otorhinolaryngology. He has implemented nearly all implantable hearing improvement systems in Poland and was a pioneer of these solutions in Europe and globally.
