Professor Zbigniew Gaciong, Rector of the Medical University of Warsaw, highlighted the comprehensive care provided by the clinical units under his supervision, which are capable of offering care to patients with rare diseases from birth through adulthood

During the discussion at the “Healthcare Policy Summit – Rare Diseases,” Professor Zbigniew Gaciong, Rector of the Medical University of Warsaw, emphasized the unique role of the university in the research and treatment of rare diseases. The Medical University of Warsaw is the only institution in Poland that hosts three centers belonging to the European Reference Networks (ERN), positioning the university at the forefront of national research in this field.

The Rector highlighted the comprehensive care offered by the Medical University of Warsaw and its clinical units, which are capable of providing care to patients with rare diseases from birth through adulthood. He also emphasized that advancements in medicine significantly improve the chances of life and its quality for patients with rare diseases.

Professor Gaciong pointed out that the number of patients with rare diseases will increase due to advancements in modern medicine, providing those suffering from such conditions a much greater chance of survival. He also underscored the importance of substantive discussions, such as the one conducted during the workshop, in determining the appropriate approach to patients with rare diseases in Poland.
