Decision makers and experts about the prescription for the future of Europe

A prescription for the future of Europe in the face of social, economic and health challenges after COVID-19 – this was the slogan of V edition of the conference in the series “The best way to predict the future is to create it”. The Medical Research Agency was the institutional partner of the event, organized by the Kulski Foundation and the Institute for Social Policy Development. The discussion was a perfect fit for the Future of Europe initiative undertaken within the European Union.

The honorary patronage over the conference was taken by: Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Public Benefit Committee Piotr Gliński, Minister of Health, dr. n. ekon. Adam Niedzielski, Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, Government Plenipotentiary for Youth Policy Piotr Mazurek, Committee for Public Benefit, as well as Council for Dialogue with the Young Generation.

The conference took place on 24 November, 2021 at Sofitel Warsaw Victoria hotel in the hybrid format. Due to the prevailing epidemiological situation, the event was organized in compliance with the sanitary regime, which allowed some participants to participate remotely.

Representatives of Polish and European public institutions, including Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Health, Medical Research Agency, Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Tariffs, Sejm and Senate, European Economic and Social Committee,  European Commission, as well as medical and system experts, international partners of the Foundation and representatives of industry organizations, NGO sector and think-tanks took part in the discussions.

The opening speeches were delivered by Małgorzata Bogusz – President of the Kulski Foundation and President of the Institute for Social Policy Development, as well as Member of the European Economic and Social Committee and dr hab. Radosław Sierpiński – President of the Medical Research Agency and Prime Minister’s Plenipotentiary for development of the biotechnological sector and Poland’s independence in blood derivative products. Moreover, within the framework of the honorary speech, a letter from Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Gliński was read out by Szymon Dziubicki – Director of the Civil Society Department at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.

During the conference the participants touched upon the topics related to the challenges that Europe and Poland currently face, as well as the most optimal solutions to the problems that have accumulated, among others, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. International initiatives aimed at economic recovery and civil society development in Europe after COVID-19, as well as the impact of the pandemic on the mental health and social attitudes of young people were also on the agenda. Much attention has been devoted to Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan as a response to the oncological tsunami threatening the society. Policy makers and experts also talked about the challenges related to the treatment of civilization and rare diseases..
