We cordially invite you to read the report from the conference titled Healthcare Policy Roundtable: Friedreich’s Ataxia.
The report results from an expert debate organized by the Institute for Social Policy Development (IRSS) on October 14, 2024, at the “Children’s Memorial Health Institute” in Warsaw.
A group of distinguished medical experts in the field of neurology discussed Friedreich’s Ataxia – a very rare, progressive neurological disease that affects approximately 150 people in Poland, primarily children and adolescents. The first symptoms usually appear between the ages of 8 and 15.
The disease leads to severe disability and can result in premature death. The average life expectancy of patients is only 37 years.
Experts emphasized the urgent need for access to treatment, as well as the importance of educating physicians and supporting patients in the face of this rare and debilitating disease.
