On August 4th at the TVP3 Warsaw studio, we discussed the challenges facing Polish neurology using Parkinson’s disease as an example, based on a report by the Institute for Social Policy Development (IRSS).

The report provides an in-depth account of the Healthcare Policy Roundtable conference titled “The current state and challenges of Polish neurology in the context of an aging society,” held in Warsaw at the end of May.

In Poland, around 80,000 people live with Parkinson’s disease, and each year approximately 8,000 new cases are diagnosed. There is a pressing need for access to modern therapies, increased education, and more visibility of neurology in public debate.

The Institute for the Social Policy Development was represented by editor Karolina Wasielewska. The medical perspective was presented by Dr. Kasia Smilowska, MD, PhD, from the Provincial Specialist Hospital of St. Barbara in Sosnowiec.
