The Institute for the Development of Social Affairs (IRSS) has been organizing cyclical scientific conferences for several years in the form of the HEALTHCARE POLICY SUMMIT and HEALTHCARE POLICY ROUNDTABLE, dedicated to a range of important systemic issues.

We bring together leading medical experts, representatives of public institutions, and patient organizations to discuss challenges related to epidemiology, diagnostics, and treatment of diseases that pose serious challenges to the entire healthcare system in Poland.

Today, we present the report from the conference: “The Current State and Challenges of Polish Neurology in the Context of an Aging Society.”

Neurological diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, or strokes, involve not only expenses for treatment, rehabilitation, and medications, but also indirect costs such as loss of caregiver productivity or the need for early retirement. This is one of the most serious challenges of modern medicine and a key area of health policy in Poland.

The report was based on an expert panel held at the end of May this year at the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology. The discussion focused on the challenges in Polish neurology, using Parkinson’s disease as a case study.
