backWorking Together for Health: A Working Visit to Brussels
On July 3, 2025, a delegation from the Committee of Clinical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, together with the team from the Institute for the Development of Social Affairs (IRSS), conducted a working visit to Brussels.
At the European Parliament, the delegation met with Adam Jarubas, Chair of the Committee on Public Health (SANT), who presented the structure and role of this key EU institution and led a substantive discussion.
The meeting focused on major health challenges in Poland and across Europe, including issues related to neurology, cardiology, endocrinology, gynecology, and ophthalmology.
Chairman Jarubas outlined the latest initiatives of the Committee, including:
- the reform of the EU pharmaceutical market (featuring the new pharmaceutical package and a jointly negotiated position of EU Member States—one of the key achievements of the Polish EU Council Presidency),
- the critical medicines list aimed at improving pharmaceutical security,
- and actions under the European Beating Cancer Plan, as well as initiatives in mental health, neurological and cardiovascular diseases, and support for biotech innovation.
The meeting was highly constructive and emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration and the exchange of best practices. Participants unanimously agreed that joint efforts are essential to improving health and social outcomes and expressed readiness for continued cooperation.
It is worth noting that both MEP Adam Jarubas and the Committee of Clinical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences made significant contributions to the White Paper—a publication by IRSS summarizing six expert and policymaker conferences on the health priorities of the Polish EU Council Presidency.

As part of the Brussels visit, representatives of IRSS and the Polish Academy of Sciences also participated in a Roundtable hosted by the European Policy Centre, titled “Innovation Across the Lifecycle of Brain Health.” The event addressed current challenges and developments in brain health, bringing together medical experts and EU institutional leaders to discuss innovation in this field.
Participants highlighted the need for scientific innovation, increased funding, and amplifying the voice of patients in shaping future health strategies.
